THIRD DISTRICT 2009 ORATORICAL CONTEST
The Third District Oratorical contest will be held on December 19,2009 at the Montgomery
Legion Post 79. The contest will begin at 9 A.M. sharp with check in time being 8:30 to 8:45 at
the Post.
I thank Commander Mike Maxa and the Montgomery Post for hosting this contest.
I am asking every Post in the Third District to consider having a contestant from their local High
School participate in this event. The Department has mailed brochures and information to the
schools, but the Post Chairman should contact the school and encourage the teachers and Debate
coaches to enter a student in the District contest. The awards for the District contest are as follows:
First place..$300.00 Second place…$200.00 and Third place…$100.00.
The contestant must prepare to give an 8-10 minute speech, without notes, on an Article of the
U.S. Constitution. And also will be expected to give a 3-5 minute extemporaneous presentation
on a subject selected the day of the contest pertaining to the Constitution.
The contestant should be aware of the date of the Department contest should they be the District
winner. The Department contest will be held on Friday January 29, 2010. The semi-finals will be
held at Osseo Post 172 and Champlain Post 600 in the morning and the finals will be held at
Anoka Post 102 in the afternoon.
The National Contest will be held in Indianapolis, IN. April 9-11, 2010 for the Department
winner.
Enclosed in this mailing is the form for Posts to enter their contestant. This form must be sent to the
District Chairman no later than December 10, 2009
We must have time to plan for the number of contestants and other details of the District
contest.

award of $300.00 and represent the District at the Department Oratorical

Posts with the finals being that afternoon at the Anoka American Legion Post.
